Fishing Report 6/7-8/06

Jimmy Lewis with his 9.5 pounder...With all that is going on right now, it was therapeutic just to get out on the water with my buddy Steve Kelly. I hadn't been to Crescent Lake at all this year and was looking forward to it. We got there around 5:00 and started flatlining some of the familiar runs. The Lyman produced a beautiful 6 Lb. brown (guesstimation) for Steve right out of the gate, but the hookjaw got off while we were trying to grip him.....no big deal, though we would loved to have gotten a photo of him.

Steve with a pretty 5 pounder...We were doing well with the Lyman's, both on the riggers and flatlining. Kelly seemed to dominate early and then I owned the afternoon. We ended up with 8 quality browns with 7 of them going 4-6 Lb. The smallest was around 3 Lb. Mixed in were 4 lakers that ran to 7 Lb. We were really only trying to target the browns and didn't put in much time on the bigger lakers. There is time for that later.

Crescent is still very low but the ramp is finally deep enough to launch boats. The water temps are still in the 50's which bodes well for the brown action for a while yet.

Rick with a 4.5 pound brown...On another note, I got a call from Dan McAllister yesterday evening. He and some friends had been fishing East and Crane for a long weekend. They did well on some nice bows and a few brookies at Crane. I believe they got some nice browns at East to around 6.5 Lb. The highlight of the trip, Dan said, was when his Dad's rod went off on a flatline run and they had difficulty getting it out of the holder it was over so hard. Turned out that they got an Excalibur Minnow chewed off by a big boy. Too bad, those are both hard to come by!

Another shot of Jimmy with his fish...This morning, I got an email from Jimmy Lewis who had just got back from a Central Oregon Lake that will remain nameless for now. Sat afternoon, they got into some nice browns, including this 9.5 Lb. hookjaw. Way to go, Jimmy! That was so close to the magical 10 Lb. mark. The rest of the catch included a 6 Lb. brown and several between 2-3 Lb. Good job you guys!

I had heard an unconfirmed report of a 17 Lb. brown coming out of Wickiup. Things are looking up on the trophy trout scene here of late. I will be out possibly a couple of times later in the week. My favorite fishing buddy, Colin, my grandson, will be for a stay starting this weekend and will hit several lakes over the next month.

Tight lines, Rick
