Fishing
Report 6/21/06
The
arrival of my Grandson Colin each summer is an exciting
time for me and an event I truly look forward to. He has
shot up to 5' 5" and is pretty tall for a 12 year old.
He finally passed grandma by and will probably pass me by
next year. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting shorter and
larger around.
His arrival had me chomping at the bit to get out and fish
a little. I have been tied up with several personal items
that did not allow me to fish as much as I would have liked
this spring. We decided to hit a lake I won't name and East
Lake for a couple of days. The weather has been getting
more like summer and the high pressure has built in for
now.
We got to our destination and I got out the first evening
around 5:00 p.m. and started to work an area I like. I had
set up his rod on the downrigger and I was working some
leadcore. "Grandpa, I think I have one on" he
said as I looked over at the bouncing rod. Sure enough a
nice 3 Lb. brown was soon beside the boat and Colin had
his first brown on 2006.
The bite was fairly even between the downrigger and leadcore
and we ended up with 12 browns up to a little over 4 Lb.
As usual, I let him play the majority of the fish before
I finally played a couple right at dark.
The
next morning produced another 5 browns with the largest
around 3 Lb. At that point, we decided to make a change
and give East a try. Around 11:00 we pulled out and drove
to East Lake to see how the browns were biting there. We
picked up several small browns before dark, but we probably
should have stayed where we were at. I was hoping the morning
bite would prove to be better as we were heading in. I was
wrong. We only picked up 2 small browns before we decided
to head for home. The last two times at East had been slow
after a red hot outing in May. You never know!
Look for a kokanee update next week as we try for some of
the small salmon at either Crescent or Paulina. Probably
a shot at some browns or lakers to boot.
Screamin' Drags,
Rick
