Fishing
Report 6-13-05
A referral from a bull trout
trip earlier in the season led to my second trip out on
Paulina in as many weeks. We meet at the ramp at 4:30 to
hit it early for browns. We caught around half a dozen up
to 2 lb. working in front of the resort and the area around
the black slide. With some low cloud cover we were able
to hang in there until around 8:30 when the sun started
to poke through.
We decide to switch gears and pursue some kokanee for the
remainder of the morning. The hot setup was the Shasta Tackle
Slingblade in nickel/red with the Pro-Troll kokanee Killer
in watermelon. The other rod ran a small Goldstar flasher
in Watermelon with a copcar kokanee killer. Between the
two anglers, 8 kokes were landed with at least that many
lost. The clients had a little trouble at first getting
used to the tender mouthed salmon but soon got the hang
of it. The fish were caught at 18 to 38 feet and the water
temp on top is still fairly low for this time of the year
at 45-46. The long protracted damp spring has kept the lake
a little behind schedule this year so far.
The evening gig produced 8 more browns to around 2.5 lb.
with a hot bite between 7:30 and 8:30. We were ripping minnow
imitation plugs 200 to 300 feet back on top.
