It has been a crazy spring for me this year. A little busier than I like but with the increase in my guide business and all that has been going on with TTG, I can't complain.
I was only home 4 days in May, but did manage some time with my buddy John "Dink" Werwie in mid-May. We didn't stick any monsters but caught over 100 browns in 5 days with this nice 8.5 Lb. hen brown sitting at the top of the heap. I think we had 5 over 4 Lb. amongst the majority of dink browns we caught. We always have fun fishing together!
I have my middle grandson, Alec, with me this summer for the first time since his Dad died last December. He is up for two weeks this June. We took a short trip to a couple of our Central Oregon lakes and he managed to stick this nice 3 LB. brown all by himself. We accounted for 37 browns in a 2.5 day outing. We didn't stick anything of trophy size, but we still have this week to go. Remembering that I got my other grandson, Colin into a killer 12 LB. hookjaw last year, he has his sights set pretty high right now. I have to remind him that catching brown trout over 10 LB. is kind of like winning the lottery. Definitely more fun than playing the lottery though.
On another evening by myself at Paulina Lake in early June, I got into a bunch of browns with 14 caught and released and this 4 Lb. hen topping the bunch. They all came from 4:30 to 8:30 flatlining A/C "Skinnies" and Pointers. Sorry about the photo....I'm still learning how to use my self timer on the digital camera. She was a little fatty!
I should be out with Alec again before we take him back to Cal. next week. Hopefully, I can put him into a respectable brown before he goes. You will be the first to know if we can make it happen. Speaking of respectable browns, the brownbaggers have been tearing it up this spring with at least (7) browns over 10! Congrats to my fellow baggers!
I will be in Cal. for 10 days at the end of June, so reports will be skinny for a while unless some of you send some in. Send them to mark@trophytroutguide.com while I'm gone.
Tight Lines, Rick
