Fishing Report 5-21-07
Today's Date is:
Best of the trip, 4 Lb./24 in. brown.

I'm a little behind on getting reports up, but better late than never. I got word from Brian Wildish that he and his buddy Ryan Daniels were taking their Dad's on a brown trout excursion to East Lake in mid-May. That is prime time for the lake.

I remember a trip Mark K. and his brothers had with me last year around the same time. It was a killer day for us with about 15 browns landed to 6 Lb.+ by noon. For those of you planning a trip to East Lake, early to mid-May is prime time. If you can put up with the cold, you will likely be rewarded with some nice browns.

Brian with a nice 3.5 LB. East Lake brown.I often refer to my friends from the other side of the mountain as the "valley boys." These guys are fanatical about pursuing the big bulls and browns of Central Oregon. I might add that they have been doing well on both species. I believe they all have bulls over 10 LB. and Jimmy Lewis has a 10 Lb. brown from Paulina, Dan M. just got his first over 11 LB. last year. Brian W. got a nice hookjaw around 9.5 LB. a couple of years back and though I might be leaving someone out, I'm sure the whole circle of guys has caught some nice browns. These guys are prime "brownbagger" candidates, and I think some will graduate (2 browns over 10 LB.) eventually. That being said, there are no guarantees of 10 LB. browns and they all know that!

Brain and his Dad, Gary, have fished with me a couple of times for bulls and we have always had a great time. I was glad to hear that Ryan and Brian were treating their dad's to the trip.

Gary Wildish with an East Lake 4 LB. chunk! It looks like both groups caught over 30 browns per father/son team. I think Gary W. had the biggest brown at 4 Lb. and lost a couple of others that may have been much bigger.

As reported to me, the guys were pulling plugs that represent the chubs and kokanee that are the main forage for the browns in East. They were flatlining and fishing downriggers working water from 15-30 feet.

Good job you guys and the early Fathers Day gift to the Dad's!

Tight lines, Rick
