I had forgotten that I donated a free guide trip to Quota International a year and a half ago. Susie at Sign Pro had approached me about being auctioned off and I agreed to it.
I got a call from Gary Goldberg this winter explaining that his girlfriend had won and she gave it to him. We set a date for early April and Gary's friends, Austin and Jon joined up to tackle some big bull trout.
This was one of those days that you dream about this time of year. It was warm and flat and the sun felt so good after a long winter. We got started around 7:00 a.m. and headed right to the island run. We had just crossed a spot I call the rock pile when Gary's rod went over. As I was picking up the other rod to get out of the way, it went off and I said " Who's up? We have a double." It was Austin's turn and he was fast into a nice bull. We managed to keep the fish apart and worked on getting the closest one in first.
I had the net out and got Gary's 7.5 Lb. hen in and quickly got the hook out. Next it was Austin's turn and I managed to net his fish with Gary's fish still in the bottom of the net. Pretty cool! A 7.5 and 10 Lb. bull in the net at the same time. After photos, we released both fish.
A little later, Jon got his turn at a beautiful 9 LB. + bull and everyone now had a decent bull. Altogether it was one of the better days this spring with the biggest bulls going 7.5, 9,9 and 10 LB. (5) other dinks rounded out the count to 9 bulls total on one of the prettiest days we have had so far this spring. All of the fish came on Lyman Plugs that are now available at Brad's Bait and Tackle in Madras. (541) 475-6892.
