Crescent
Lake 4-14-05
As
Last week John Werwie hooked up for a little brown trout
junket to Crescent Lake. John arrived early Mon. evening.
I had got there about 2 hours earlier so I popped the boat
in for a few laps. Nothing big but 3 browns to 2 lb. before
dark.
Our best day of the 4 day trip was Thurs. when Steve Kelly
joined us for the day. There was an approaching front and
that may have spurred the bite because we couldn't keep
them off for most of the morning. Mostly dinks but Steve
caught and released a nice hookjaw around 5 lb. and we had
maybe 4 over 3 lb. By the time we headed in for lunch at
KJ's Cafe, we had caught and released 15 browns.
After
lunch things slowed to a more normal pace and we caught
6 more browns before dark. The last fish of the day was
a nice fat 5.5 lb. hen that Kelly hooked on the old trusty
Lyman plug with the rod in the holder. Pretty good day with
21 browns hooked and released with 5 over 3 and 2 over 5.
The 4 1/2 day trip netted us just over 50 browns and that
was with the bite declining noticeably Fri. and Sat. morning.
One of the highlights of the trip was running into my buddy
Chuck Jones from Roseburg. This legendary trophy brown trout
angler has amassed 23 browns OVER 10 lb. in 20 something
years of chasing them. Unfortunately, that Sat. morning
had only produced 2 dink browns for both our boats.
My
camera is still being repaired so I hope to have photos
up soon when John gets his to me. I will be out tomorrow
on a pre-fishing trip to Billy Chinook for a promo trip
that is coming up on Sun. with a houseboat magazine crew.
They will be featuring Cove Palisades Marina in an upcoming
article. I will post more about it after the trip. I have
several guide trips coming up the end of April so look for
more reports soon.
