I had the opportunity to have my good friend, Rick Coffin, and his grandson, AJ, out this past Thurs. evening at Wickiup. We had hoped to get AJ his first brown trout. We got a really late start because Rick had a late afternoon meeting and didn't arrive at the lake until around 7:00. We did a quick dinner at the Twin lakes Resort and got out on the water hoping for a decent evening bite. It didn't happen. We could blame a full moon but the reality is sometimes it is just fishing and the catching doesn't happen.
Our only decent bite came earlier in the afternoon, when Colin caught this nice 5.5 Lb. hen while we were downrigging the channel mid-lake. The brown hit a kokanee pattern Bomber on a long set back. It was hot and flat when she hit around 2:00 p.m.....not exactly prime time for brown trout fishing. The next morning was also slow and after a smaller brown and a hard strike that missed, we decided we would see what East lake had going on. We scattered a few smaller browns and then Colin hooked up on this short but fat 5 LB. hookjaw brown right around 5:00 p.m. The bite was slower than usual and we decided to bag it and shoot for our last outing together this upcoming next week.
Check out this jeep that ended up in the lake at Wickiup... running a little too close to the edge and a few too many beers did the trick! They finally got it pulled out after several attempts.
Tight Lines,
Rick
