After a whirlwind trip to California to swap grandsons and deliver several fish to the taxidermists, it felt great to be back in Central Oregon! I always get a since of perspective about how lucky, fortunate and blessed I am to live in some of the most beautiful country in the Northwest after my time in California! Just how bad the traffic is in L.A. is something that I easily forget until I find myself crawling along I-5!
I had a couple of days to dig out after the trip and before Colin and I could get out to fish, we did manage to get in a little shooting though. I had bought a new Ruger 10-22 this spring in anticipation of the boys coming up and wanted to introduce them to shooting. They both seem to love it!......what boy wouldn't?
Last night was the first opportunity to get out on the water. We didn't get up to Wickiup until around 5:00 and we decided to work some areas that can be fun to cast. That wasn't happening so we switched gears and decided to troll. It was slow early but got better as we hit lower light later. Here are a couple of shots of Colin with a 6 LB. hen that hit a custom painted lure while flatlining and then a 5 Lb. hen that we caught a little deeper. The weather was perfect and the moon rising was a visual treat as we enjoyed our first outing on this famous lake.
Look for more reports as Colin and I hit the Central Oregon lakes these next two weeks!
Tight Lines,
Rick
