I just got off the phone with ex-guide and Shasta Tackle Pro-Staffer, Shawn Parker. He and his fishing partner, Don Hartsook, had one more shot at Pyramid before the June 30th closure last week. Both of these guys are accomplished trophy cutt anglers with many over 10 LB. and each have 20’s in their resume! Shawn said it was an epic day with probably at least 50 fish caught and released before they got off!
They were working an area they like over by the Pyramid at 75-80 feet with 4” Shasta Tackle Wiggle Hootchies behind Gary’s Slingblades. They were running 4 and 6” blades ahead of the hootchies. The hot color was the “Bloody Ghost.” They had 4 big cutts over 10 LB. including 14 and 16 LB. slugs! All of the fish were released.
Coincidentally, I got a call from John Werwie the same day saying our buddy, Ted Neal, was on his last trip to Pyramid for this spring/summer season. They banged a bunch of cutts as well with the best right at 12 LB. They released everything also.
Pyramid has been a fantastic success story on trophy lahontan cutts these past few years with big numbers of huge fish showing up on a regular basis. There have been cutts to just short of 25 LB. and it is predicted that a 30 LB. cutt will probably show this coming fall/winter! The lake will reopen on Oct.1, 2015.
