This has been an incredible spring so far for me. I have popped a lot of quality browns and am grateful for every one of them!
John and I got together again this past week for our second spring outing in pursuit of big browns and we hit it just right. With water temps right at 50 degrees, it was “game on.” Our numbers on large browns over 5 LB. were as good as it gets with 14 total over a 4 day stretch. Better yet, we caught 5 over 8 LB. topped by John’s 8.5 LB. hen right before dark. The only thing we didn’t accomplish was catching any over 10 LB. I am hopeful every time we get together that John breaks the “Mothers Day Curse” that started many years ago when he last caught an 11 Lb. brown on Mother’s Day weekend.....that was his last and it has been 26 years now! He has caught a ton of 8’s and some over 9 LB. but no 10’s! I hope I am the one to net his next one over 10 LB.
We had several good days early in the trip and then things tapered off later in the week. We have another week together so check back to see if our luck continues and he breaks the curse!!
