February is gone already and the guys are still telling me that the fishing is still kind of hit and miss. Out of eight boats the other day one had their best fishing of the winter landing 8 fish, a few of the other boats landed a couple of fish and the rest got skunked. So how important is using the right color, lure and speed. Critical!! The worst part of it is that this year the fish have been real finicky jumping from Billies to Hair then back to Billies and then to Hellbenders to Billies then to J-plugs and Lymans so if you hit the right lure you do ok. The flasher hoochie combos have been the most consistent for both for Dollies and Rainbows. Water temp is still holding around that 38-39 degree range. So if you have some nice chop try the flies, Nov specials, caveman, black/white gold mylar, patriot (on sunny days), bleeding gill and the old favorite 215. On flat water I would start with Apexes cop car, purple black, and the army truck. Or Lymans # 16, 98 and 183, or Billies the sour grape, rainbow trout, purple/chrome and black/chrome gel and the good old chrome or Dr death in the J-plug. If you want to get adventures try some pure whites Casper in the flies and the Texas shad in the billies.

The West Arm outdoors club had their annual wild game dinner and fund raiser on Feb 25th, and the club did their usual great job. The food was fantastic as usual, with delicacies such as smoked Cougar, roast bear and goat meat balls along with other Elk, Deer, Moose, turkey, and fish dishes. The sponsors did their part as well with great live and silent auction items. This event has been going on for quite a long time and funds raised go towards enhancing habitat and promoting outdoor activities in our area. Great job everyone!!

As most would have already noticed the prime times fishing guide is no more, so we have purchased the information and have made it available on our web site www.gillandgift.com on the left hand side of the home page you will see the solar feeding table, click on it then the month you want. We hope this helps those who don’t have the app on their Iphone. March 22 is supposed to be one of the best days this season.

They tell me that the ice is coming off Duncan Lake so some are getting as little antsy to get out there and get into fantastic Bull Trout action, we will keep you updated.

The attached pictures are from February 7th and 8th Cathy and Eugene Tompkins’s 21lb and 18lb Rainbows what a pair of beauties (the fish) and Cathy even let Eugene take a picture with one of her fish.
