Fishing all through January has been generally good with the odd bad day especially around the full moon. Rainbows up to 24 lbs were being caught. There seems to be more guys getting out there than last year even though the weather seems to be worse. The Revelstoke boys fought the elements and came over for a weekend of fishing. Some did well while others didn’t have as much luck, but I think they all caught some fish and had a good time. It was good to see you all. If you have any good fish pictures send them to me on the email and I will post them on the website. Peter, we will continue to feed that elusive 20lber for your next trip. Even had a couple of guys up from California didn’t hear the final results, but I think they did well.

Locally, Splitshot has been doing well landing his 10th 20lb Rainbow since October, the latest coming last week. The 18lb Rainbow had 11 Kokanee in it and still took the Billy. He also landed a 17 ½ , 15 ½, and a 13 ½ dolly over the last week. A couple of guys stopped in looking for that secret lure as they were renting a Kaslo Bay boat. I hope I steered you in the right direction.

Eugene and Cathy have also been doing well, with Cathy landing a 18lb Rainbow the other day. Lancer, after missing some time, landed a 16lb and a 10lb Rainbow. Ray B reported having the best day fishing he has ever had on Kootenay Lake, and he has been here a while. I think the biggest was a 18 lb Rainbow. Mike B landed a 18 lber. Shadow Mtn. Tim has landed a lot of fish but nothing of any great size. Kerry from Reel Adventures has also had some great days, see his fishing report in the Nelson Star. Larry has even reported great fishing recording a 7 fish day I think they even had a double or triple header, way to go Larry!

The Billies have finally started to kick in Rainbow Trout in both regular and gel coat, green/ chrome, Tennessee shad in the gel coat, Brown Trout gel, blue/green gel, sour grape gel. I seem to be moving quite a few of the new purple/chrome in the gel as well. Not sure if they are selling because they are new or if they are actually working. Jim lost a good dolly on a green crazy flasher and oilskick hoochie. If you catch a fish with this hanging out of its mouth, Jim wants it back.

The larger fish still seem to be coming in from the south arm with some action between Woodbury and the ferry landing. North of Woodbury the guys tell me that there are lots of fish being caught but seem to be a little smaller. The water temp is 39.5, and I have noticed some ice forming in the bays on the way into Nelson. The good book says that the first 5 days of February and the 13th, 20th and 21st and 26th are supposed to be the best fishing this month, and the full moon falls on the 18th.

Sunday Feb 6: As I am writing this Splitshot lands a 26lb Rainbow and then a 15 lb rainbow.

Feb 16: Water temp still mid 39 degrees. Billies still the ticket. Blue green gel, sour grape gel, rainbow on chrome dark pink sides, also give the Lyman # 53 a try. Saw Rick at the curling rink last Thursday and told him that I was refreshing my door pictures and I had taken his picture down from last fall. He kind of looked disappointed but came in on Friday with a new fish 15lbs. Congrats Rick you are back on the door.
