Fishing Report October 11, 2010

Nice 15 LB.+ gerrard rainbow from Kootenay Lake. Photo courtesy Brad Stubbs.

Moved the boat over to Kootenay Lake yesterday. Got the boat in the water and started fishing by 10:00am. Looked like it was going to be tough conditions as it was bright and sunny, only a small ripple, and the water temp was 57 degrees which seemed a few degrees high still. But we were there and it was such a nice day, so we went out to see what was biting.

Out go the flies, and after 20 minutes we had no bites, so we bumped up our speed, and got a small one soon after. Then another 10 minutes we get another small one. Well this is good, at least we have some action. A short while later we put out Brownies Sunny Boy fly, and within 5 minutes it starts screaming line. After a great battle in the warm sunshine Cody lands a 15lb 3oz gorgeous gerrard rainbow trout. We click off some pictures, and watch her swim away.

Well now we're pumped and full of enthusiasm. What we thought was going to be a slow day has already turned out to be pretty good. Out go the flies again, and we land another couple of small ones. Then again we get a peeler, and another great battle by Cody lands a 9 lber. Quick picks, and we let her swim away.

In total we landed 9 trout in about 6 hrs making for a fun day. It's going to be an awesome fall and winter. See you soon.
