I was driving home from a fishing trip of my own when I got a call from buddy, Eric Cole. He and one of his friends, Darrell Todd spent most of the opener at Wickiup in pursuit of big browns. They got red hot and caught (9) browns over 5 LB. in a little over 2 days! Their best topped the 8 LB. mark.
The weather was turning as a cold front was coming in and the browns went nuts. Though few people did very well on the elusive salmonids, Eric and Darrell were spanking them. I can't disclose where they were caught or all the lures used but I know several were caught on the A/C 5" stickbait in a rainbow trout pattern.
I believe this was Darrell's first trip out to fish the Central Oregon opener and Eric did really well to put them on so many quality browns. They fished Sat. and Sun. and part of Mon. before Eric drove Darrell to the airport for his trip home. I wonder what Darrell thinks about our CO trout fishing now?
Tight Lines,
Rick
