Some of you may already know this, but RD and I had some of the best bull trout fishing of our lives at Lake Billy Chinook this last weekend. I was able to catch the largest bull trout of my life! A 13 lb, 29.5 inch male! It had a girth of 19 inches. After some talking with RD, for the little amount that we go to LBC, I decided to keep this fish and will mount it! I decided to go with Rick's Trophy Mounts. The deciding factor for me was the taxidermy he's with has done several bull trout and they appear to have a really good feel for this type of fish and the coloring/patterning.

We also caught a 10.5, (2) 7's, a 6, (2) 5's, (3) 4's, (3) 3's, and couple of dinks. We also lost 7 or 8, (3) of them that we're guessing were in the 7 to 8 lb class that were near the boat (we got to see 2 of them...they were nice).

I also got a report from Kelly Duncan (aka Logger) that he had some success up there as well. We also met another local from there at the dock and he was able to have some success, with his biggest being a 28 inch, 10 lber and if I remember correctly, he caught an 8 lber too. LBC was on fire this last weekend.

Best to everyone,
Brian (aka Bwildi)

Manuel Garcia sent a photo of his buddy Ron with a keeper bull from their opening day trip to LBC. Had two good sized kokes in it!

Just a note to let you know the results of our outing at the opening 4 days at Billy:

First day the two of us, using 2 poles each per the new regs, were able to get only one 24 in. bull but it had a girth of 15.25 in. In addition we released a total of 22 fish with 90% of them over 20 inches.

On the second day we did a little better with 29 landed and about the same size ratio of the first day.

The third day we decided to concentrate on getting into the big one but were able to hook only one good.

On the fourth day, with a lot of chasing around, we were able to catch and released 9 more with one big hook up that we lost after a good battle.

The fish seem to be in excellent health. The one we kept had 2 kokes inside around 10 inches long. Sorry we did not check the weight but it was fat.

Keep your reports coming, it is nice to hear from you.

Manuel
